First double-decker AutoStore system with Oxyreduct system from AM-Automation

November 2018

World first for ULMAN at the Gärtringen site

ULMAN is one of the leading suppliers of technically sophisticated products and solutions in sealing and elastomer technology. The successful group of companies, with its global customer base, is a full-range supplier in many sectors and industries, such as mechanical engineering, stationary and mobile hydraulics, drive and electrical engineering, the chemical industry, the automotive sector and many more.

AM-Automation developed the world’s first two-storey AutoStore system especially for ULMAN at the Gärtringen site, in conjunction with an OxyReduct system. In the first utilization phase of the installed system, ~20,000 containers are available, which can be upgraded to 30,000 units. AM’s concept was designed on two levels: The larger part of the facility is located in the approximately 10 m deep basement and the second connected part on the first floor above with ~1,500 boxes and a separate stage. This alignment does not occupy any logistical process and storage space. In addition, the adjacent quality assurance area has its own delivery area, which saves on internal transportation and travel times.

OxyReduct in the basement

The basement is completely filled with the new AutoStore system. The installed OxyReduct system ensures a low-oxygen atmosphere, which completely prevents the development of an open fire. In order to prevent too much oxygen from flowing in from the lower oxygen-depleted area as a result of the storage movements upwards, two fire protection doors with a fast-running function were installed. An emergency port is available in the event of a lift failure. The bins are replaced during the night so that the bins with planned commissions are ready on the first floor in the morning.

Know-how from the market leader

With its many years of experience in everything to do with intralogistics, AM-Automation demonstrated the expertise of a market leader and implemented the world’s first two-storey AutoStore system including an OxyReduct system for ULMAN and also created process space for internal logistics by installing the system on a platform on the first floor.
